#1 It Originated from England
A lot of people don’t actually know but table tennis, or otherwise known as ping pong actually originated from England. Yes, you have heard it right, however, this isn’t the only interesting bit. You should also know that the game is as old as 18th century, and goes as back as 1880.
The reason table tennis was developed is because the creators wanted to replicate the feel of the tennis played in lawn, but they wanted the game to be easily playable in the indoors, and that is why the table tennis was invented back in 1880, and the first official game was played in 1890.
#2 The Creators Were Almost Sued
Another interesting fact about table tennis is that the creators of the game were almost sued by the owners of the name Ping Pong because according to them, their name was used without mentioning the use of the equipment provided by them.
In order to avoid the lawsuit, the game was then called table tennis, and that was the name that became an international standard name we all use now.
#3 There Has Been an Event Named Ping Pong Diplomacy
This is an odd one that actually a lot of people don’t know, but sometime in 1971, China invited countries like England, US, Colombia, and Canada in order to play some friendly table tennis matches there. The world was in shock, because this was the first time China actually came into contact with the rest of the world. The entire media ended up dubbing this event as the “Ping Pong Diplomacy”. While the world at that time thought that this was a friendly gesture from China, but according to sources, this was actually a planned move by China for some reason.
